Blog Reawakening... ways to stay in touch

So, this blog has been dead for over a year. I find this unacceptable, so I decided that it's time to breathe some new air into it. I plan on beginning by letting everyone know all the fun and interactive ways to get a hold of me:

1) This blog: I WILL be making an effort to keep it up.
2) Facebook: look me up under Lynyrd Lionheart. Not much going on there yet, but as soon as I get my creative juices flowing once more I plan on tearing my way through the facebook scene
3) Twitter: @LynyrdLionheart Lots of fun ramblings and mutterings.
4) E-mail: drop me one at lynyrdlionheart@hotmail.com

I'm also considering making a Tumblr, but we'll see.

As to the question most likely going through people's heads... I'm not sure when I'll be updating. Sometimes, you hit a brick wall. I've been hitting mine repeatedly since I got my laptop back from my tech guy in June. But, I promise that there will be more fun with our favorite duo coming. Maybe Halloween will inspire me. I always seem to do my most twisted writing at Halloween.

Writer's Block

As a direct result of exams, I have been suffering a massive case of writer's block. It's all the anthropology; it's killing my creative buzz. On the bright side, I wrote my last one today, so hopefully the creative juices will begin flowing once more. I'm moving home for the summer this weekend, so I may not get writing done then, but I am determined to have a chapter done for both stories before I start work on May 3.

For good news in my life, "God Love Her" has been nominated for a Silent Tear Award in the best end worth waiting for category. You like me! You really like me! Or, at least you like my story, but I'm going to say it's me.

And that is enough for this post, because it's after eleven at night here and I really just want to crash.

Dancing with the Devil's Daughter Chapter 4 Teaser

“He’s having trouble today.”
It was lunch once again and I had been staring so hard at Isabella, determined to hear something from her mind, that I almost missed Alice’s thought. I looked away from Isabella and looked at Jasper, obviously the “he” Alice had been speaking of. I felt a pang of shame. I had been so caught up in the mystery of Isabella Swan that I had almost forgotten to keep tabs on Jasper’s thoughts. I always kept tabs on Jasper’s thoughts; it was one of the most helpful things I could do for the family.
“Have to resist. Think about Carlisle, about Alice, about the whole family.”
Jasper was sitting next to Alice, his gaze focused on the desk in front of him. His brow was furrowed, and his hands were gripping the table tightly. I was surprised he had broken anything yet, his control was that frayed.
“Just one nibble. It can be passed off as an animal. No one will know.”
I frowned at the thought. It sounded like Jasper, yet… not. Over the years I had become so used to the… flavour of my family’s thoughts that I could pick them out of a group of a thousand minds. This voice sounded like Jasper, but there was something off about it. It reminded me of when Emmett would impersonate Carlisle’s voice. It sounded almost perfect, but there was something off in the pronunciation and flow of the words.
“Jasper!” I said sharply, too quiet for human ears, but loudly enough to catch Jasper’s attention. “You can resist it. Concentrate!”
Jasper looked at me, his expression a little dazed. That was odd. As a rule, vampires were rarely, if ever, dazed. A furrow appeared between Jasper’s brows for a moment, before he shook his head and his eyes cleared.
“Yeah. You’re right. Thanks Edward.”
The five of us got up as one unit and headed to discard our untouched food in the garbage bin. As we walked, my gaze once again travelled to Isabella.
She was holding an apple in her hand, her gaze fixed on Jasper, and a contemplative look on her face. As if she could sense my eyes on her, she turned hers away from Jasper to look at me. Raising an eyebrow, she took a large bite out of the apple and gave me a close-mouthed grin.

God Love Her Chapter Twenty-two Teaser

“It’s been abandoned for eight years now.”
Startled, I turned away from the house’s rotting fence to look at a young woman who stood at the next house’s mailbox. She had tired blue eyes and was still wearing a worn pink bathrobe, which was tied tightly at the waist.
“I’ve lived here for five years, and no one’s ever looked that place. The woman I bought my place from said that the couple who used to live there packed up and moved to Florida three years before I came. I wish I could afford to move to Florida.” Her eyes turned distant and she turned her face upward, as if she could feel the Florida sun on her face. “But they’re gone now, and that eyesore is condemned. They’ll be tearing it down next Friday. What are you looking at it for, anyway?”
“I used to live there,” I replied. “It was a long time ago.”
“Well, you look like you’ve gone up in the world since then.” The woman nodded at my clothes. They were the ones from the day Bella and I had left Forks. Clothes that Esme had bought for me. I supposed that they would seem pretty fancy in this neighbourhood. Esme only bought high end merchandise. “If I were you, I’d go back to wherever you’re from and forget about this place. Anywhere has to be better than this.”
The woman took her mail out of her mailbox and stuck it under her arm. She gave me a small wave and entered her house, closing the door firmly behind her.
I looked back at the other house longingly. I had hoped that I would be able to come here and find my closure and be able to return to Bella. I had only lived in two places in Chicago. This house, and one other that remembered very well.
A group home. My first group home. It was where I had gotten my first taste of crime, and where my (rather lengthy) juvenile record had its humble beginnings.
With one last look at the decrepit house, I started my bike and rode towards the last place I really wanted to go.

The Two Sides of Bella Swan

My stories "God Love Her" and "Dancing with the Devil's Daughter" both contain two very different Bellas. This means that, when I picture them, two very different girls come to mind. I thought I'd share my Bellas with you.

First we have the Evil Bella featured in "Dancing with the Devil's Daughter." For her I picture Clare Thomas, also known as Ingrid Dracula from the BBC show "Young Dracula." Give her brown (or red, depending on the occasion) eyes, and this girl would be perfect as the Devil's daughter.

Next we have the much more typical Bella from "God Love Her." I'm not the biggest fan of Kristen Stewart's portrayal of Bella, but I do think she fits the part well physically. She looks sweet and docile, like you'd think the police chief's daughter would. Of course, we all know that looks can be deceiving.

The Darker Nature of the Cullens

So, in my fic "Dancing with the Devil's Daughter" I'm exploring the dark side of the Cullens, a side that SM hinted at, but never really wrote about. Really, the closest she came to exposing us to that side of the family was with Rosalie's story about her turning, which I am so looking forward to seeing in "Eclipse."

I don't really have any teasers to offer up yet, so I thought I'd write about the logic that ran through my head when I started to play with the idea of an Evil Bella turning the Cullen clan evil as well.

Jasper: This one is really the easiest. Jasper's tie to the family is through Alice. If there were no Alice, Jasper would probably have continued to feed on humans. Alice is what makes Jasper good, but he's still susceptible to temptation, as we saw in "New Moon." In DwtDD I'm playing around with Jasper having that temptation forced on him over and over. Do you think he can resist that temptation? I sure don't.

Rosalie: Almost as easy as Jasper. Rosalie has never tasted human blood, but she is capable of killing for revenge. What happened to Rose was terrible, but rather than letting it destroy her, Rose destroyed the ones that harmed her. To me, it's Rosalie's stubborness and desire to be human that keeps her in the Cullen lifestyle. She doesn't want to be a vampire, so she refuses to feed in the natural vampire way in an attempt to get back a human life. The Cullen family lets her do this, but Bella won't. If Rose's human facade and dream is destroyed, then what we're left with is the vicious, vengeance filled woman who murdered her rapists. Rose is very capable of becoming evil.

Esme: I've had people say that they think she'll be the hardest to turn after Carlisle, but I disagree. As one of my reviewers put it, Esme's moral compass "doesn't always point north." In "Twilight" she would have supported the murder of Bella if it kept Edward with the family. To turn Esme evil, all you really have to do is convince her that it's what is best for her family. The Cullen children have taken the place of the child Esme lost, and she would do anything to keep them safe.

Alice: Actually one of the more difficult. Alice slipped up a few times, but she managed to survive on her own and become a vegetarian thanks to her visions. Once Alice knows her path, she won't be swayed. The only problem is that in DwtDD, she doesn't know her path. Thanks to Bella, her visions of the future are almost non-existent. Without visions, Alice doesn't have much to work with, leaving her in a prime condition to be manipulated. This manipulation would be made even easier if Jasper, the man who "kept her waiting" is on the side with the cookies. In my working theory, when Alice runs blind she's a lot less sure of herself, and that will end up being her downfall.

Emmett: Quite possibly one of my favorite characters. Emmett embraces the vampire lifestyle, even if it is an untraditional version of it. We also know he gave into the call of the singer, twice. This tells me something: Emmett is not good at resisting temptation. The singers are the ultimate temptation, and he gave in easily. All Bella has to do is find a way to tempt him, to give him something only she has, and then she'll own him. I'm not saying Emmett is weak, he just doesn't feel the need to control himself as much as, say, Edward.

Edward: This is who I feel is the toughest besides Carlisle. Edward lives in a state of self-loathing for the ten years he spent feeding on humans. It's also those ten years that show he is very capable of evil. Yes, he hunted the scum of the Earth, but he still murdered humans. We know he wanted to hunt the men down in Port Angeles... but here's a question that hasn't really been explored: what Bella had let him? Had told him to? They say old habits die hard, and I'm betting it's the same with Edward's "let's play God" habit.

Carlisle: The most difficult of the bunch. Carlisle has never fed on humans. He's a blood doctor for Christ's sake! So, what makes our Dr. McVamp tick? Maybe the idea that, under the surface, he's not as civilized as he likes to believe. Much like with Rosalie, to get to Carlisle, Bella is going to have to destroy the illusion of humanity that he hides himself in. Carlisle isn't human. He's a bloodsucking monster of legend. Maybe it's time someone reminded him of that. Personally, I'd love to see a vicious, bloodthirsty Carlisle. Maybe one out for revenge against Aro for brining the Devil, quite literally, into his family?
